Kampala old taxi park 2008
This taxi park looks a mess, but this is what Ugandans may miss if they are out of their country.
Can you imagine each of these vans is a source of income to more that 5 people each day it turns up in this taxi park. The taxi driver maintains his family from moving passengers from one place to another.
And so does the money collector or conductor, others individual getting an income include; The guide, (responsible to guide the passengers and keeps order on which van takes passengers first)
The traffic police has a keen eye on a passenger van as traffic offences are likely to be committed by this van.
The hawkers with all sorts of commodities earn a living from moving from one van to another.
While the persons who clean up this park every day do not call themselves unemployed
The guy who guards the toilet and charges 100/= will call it a very bad day if this park was empty.
And so will the fuel filling stations attendant. The list could go on and on but I will not miss the mechanic who is waiting for the van to call for repairs and the owner of the van who eagerly waits each day for what the driver has to bring him back. (the agreed amount or sad news that the van has crashed beyond repair)
